PROS & CONS OF HORIZONTAL STRUCTURE
PROS
1.  Allows flexibility in response to environmental changes (such as in customer needs)
2.  Gives each employee a broader view of organizational goals
3.  Promotes cooperation & teamwork
4.  Often improves employee satisfaction (from their increased responsibility & empowerment)
CONS
1.  It is difficult & time consuming to determine core processes
2.  Requires sweeping changes in job design, culture, etc., and substantial training of employees
3.  Traditional managers may feel their position & authority threatened
4.  Can limit specialization & in-depth skill development (everyone is a "jack of all trades")
